Finding the Type of Used Motorcycle

Purchasing a motorcycle generally involves a great deal of research before you decide on the one that is right for you. There are so many makes and models to choose from that it can also be confusing. You will want to think about your motorcycle riding experience when you are looking at the type of bike to purchase. You will also want to consider what you will be doing with your motorcycle.

There are many different types of motorcycle to consider based on your interests. Do you want a motorcycle that is known for speed? If you will be taking long road trips on your motorcycle then you definitely want one built for travel and comfort. You may also want one that offers compartments to hold your necessities while you travel. Other motorcycles are designed for riding on dirt or for competition. There are also scooters that are fun for in town.

If you are new to the feat of motorcycle riding, it is recommended that you start with a moderately priced motorcycle or even with a used one. This is because a new motorcycle can cost you $20,000. Do you want to risk scratching it up or having costly repairs from dropping the bike over? Trust me, if you are new to riding that is going to be a part of the experience! You can always purchase a newer motorcycle once you have become a seasoned rider.

Even if you have a particular style of motorcycle in mind, it has to fit your body perfectly. This may be disappointing at first, but keep in mind that if the bike doesn't fit you there is a risk of an accident. It is also very likely that you won't be comfortable while riding it, so what fun will that be? Of course you can always have a customized motorcycle made later on of the style you want that fits you perfectly.

The best way determine if a motorcycle is a good fit for you is to sit on the bike with the kickstand on the ground. Can you touch the ground with both feet? If not, then you need to look for a motorcycle that isn't as tall. If you can reach the ground with both feet, can you reach the handle bars comfortably? How about the brakes and the turn signals?

Of course a very important aspect you need to consider when looking for the right motorcycle is the price. You need something that is going to fit into your budget. Do you want to purchase a used motorcycle for the amount of money you can afford? Are you willing to take out a loan to pay for a higher priced motorcycle on monthly payments? You should decide this before you even begin looking at potential motorcycles.

A motorcycle can provide you with a fun mode of transportation for fun or for commuting. Motorcycles are very inexpensive to operate and allow you to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors. You will find your motorcycle to be more comfortable if you take your time and select one based on how it feels with your body shape than how the body of the bike looks. Choosing a bike that doesn't fit well will leave you disappointed as well as raise the risk of accidents and injuries taking place.

Quick-Revving, 649cc Parallel-Twin Engine
Liquid-cooled, DOHC, 8-valve fuel-injected twin cylinder delivers smooth, responsive performance, especially in the low to medium rpm range

Excellent mid-range power, exceptional roll-on response and impressive passing performance make even commuter traffic enjoyable

Silky smooth engine vibes via a 180° crankshaft-driven balancer shaft, which in turn drives the water pump

Oil jets on the connecting rod big ends spray oil on the undersides of the pistons to aid cooling

Lightweight plug-mounted ignition coils deliver a hot spark and save space

Wide radiator offers plenty of cooling efficiency

Coolant routing travels directly to the engine cases, then on to the cylinder and head through internal passages, which keeps external plumbing to a minimum

Fine-tuned shift lever position is easy to use

Compact Engine Design
Powerful twin-cylinder engine is the most compact in its category, which helps reduce the dimension of the entire motorcycle and allows use of a slim, minimalist frame

Triangular setup of the crankshaft and transmission shafts makes the engine short front-to-back

Transmission input shaft, output shaft and change drum are contained in a “cassette”-style package that allows a compact layout and eases transmission maintenance chores

Semi-dry sump design reduces engine height
Plated, linerless aluminum cylinders with a narrow cylinder pitch keep the engine light and slim

Digital Fuel Injection
Fuel injection settings permit healthy bottom-end torque while letting the engine rev fast

Sub-throttle valve equipped 38mm Keihin throttle bodies offer optimum performance and rideability

Located behind the main throttle valves, the sub-throttles are controlled by the DFI® system ECU for a precise throttle response, similar to a constant-velocity carburetor

Auto-fast idle system simplifies starting and helps ensure the catalyzer reaches optimum temperature quickly

The lightweight fuel pump is mounted inside the fuel tank.

Vibration Control
Rubber upper-rear engine mounts decrease the vibration transferred to the rider through the seat

Handlebar is rubber-mounted to lessen vibration transmitted through the handle grips

Rider and passenger footpegs are rubber coated to further reduce vibration

Lighter Handling Trellis Frame
Frame has all the key ER-6n elements — slim, low, lightweight and compact design that is narrow at the knees and footpegs for rider comfort and control

The strong, high-tensile steel trellis frame not only looks lightweight, it is — rivaling that of aluminum frames

Balanced rigidity, achieved through extensive 3D analysis, translates directly into superb handling

The frame, rear suspension and swingarm designs flow together with an integrated line running from the steering head to the rear hub

Short front-to-back dimensions of the engine allow for a long swingarm and a short wheelbase combination that contributes to the light and nimble handling

Cleaner Emissions
Efficient fuel injection and a three-way catalyzer inside the exhaust produce very low emissions, able to pass the stringent Euro-III emission regulations

Utilizes a compact and light 300-cell catalyzer unit

Under-engine muffler placement improves mass centralization and the bike’s low center of gravity

The exhaust pipe bend and under-engine muffler arrangement contribute to the ER-6n’s attractive styling

Rigid Swingarm
Swingarm stiffness adds balance to the frame’s rigidity — due primarily to the rubber engine mounts

The D-shaped cross-section swingarm, stabilizer, chain adjuster design and elegant one-piece rider/passenger footpeg stays complement the ER-6n’s high-quality appearance

Instruments/Controls
Stacked instrument cluster has a sharp design and clean layout with an analog speedometer that uses white LED backlights for excellent visibility at night

The multi-function LCD screen has amber backlighting and its features include a fuel gauge, bar-style digital tachometer, clock, odometer and dual trip meters

Inner cover inside the front cowl provides a clean appearance in this area

Handlebar mount design and curved shapes on the brake master cylinder reservoir and clutch lever contribute further to the ER-6n’s masculine appearance

Suspension
Front and rear suspension settings match the frame and swingarm rigidity values for lighter, rider-friendly handling

Shape of the 41mm fork lower ends around the axle shaft adds to the bike’s performance and high quality image

Confidence Inspiring Ergonomics
An ideal handlebar, seat and footpeg relationship results in a comfortable and natural riding position suiting a wide range of riders

Frame narrows just aft of the fuel tank enabling a slimmer seat, making the reach to the ground even easier

The offset single-shock rear suspension layout with the battery located beside the shock instead of beneath it allows a lower seat height as well

Low seat height and slim overall design make it easy to plant both feet firmly on the ground when stopped

Aluminum passenger grips are positioned and shaped for easy grabbing by the passenger

Sharp Masculine Styling
Angular, stacked dual headlight and shroud contribute to the ER-6n’s masculine image and features two-position lights

Headlights can be adjusted behind the headlight cover

Reinforcing the ER-6n’s masculine styling, the sharp, edgy radiator shrouds feature integrated front turn signals with clear lenses and orange bulbs and forward-leaning lines

A flush-surface fuel cap and its sharp-edged motif give the tank a distinctive look

The ER-6n’s compact front-to-rear appearance is enhanced by the short front cowl, short rear cowl with its LED tail light and shrouds that start behind the front fork

Finishing out the bike’s aggressive image is a sharp tail cowl design featuring a slimmer rear mud flap and turn signals that can also function as hazard lights

A long front fender keeps the water splashing to a minimum and its two-tone design matches the ER-6n’s light, compact theme

An inner rear fender helps keep the underside of the tail cowl clean

Storage options include four tie-down hooks for baggage or a spare helmet to be secured to the seat and a storage space under the seat with room for a U-lock or similar device

Brakes
Dual 300mm front petal disc brakes with twin 27mm piston front brake calipers and a single 220mm rear petal disc deliver plenty of braking power

Housed in a curved brake master cylinder reservoir , the front brake lever utilizes an optimized ball-joint and pivot location to deliver smooth actuation of its 14mm master cylinder piston

Wheels
Attractive six-spoke supersport-style wheels augment the bike’s light look while reducing unsprung weight

Mirrors
Mirror design is a similar supersport style and offers an unparalleled rear view

Dani Pedrosa Moto-GP want to return to the 990cc class

Dani Pedrosa to return to the past, where MotoGP is still using the engine capacity of 990cc. The Spanish driver of this rate is used when the motor is too complicated.

Pedrosa's mind was back to the past, precisely in the year 2006. "The year 2006 was my debut in MotoGP and the last time this championship with a motorcycle engine 990cc," Pedrosa said as reported Visordown. "Motor is very different from what we drive now," he added.

24-year-old driver was judged that the motor is used when it is too ribet than three years ago. "The motor that we use today, too many electronic devices that make us have to continue to monitor panels instructions," said Pedrosa.

Smurf Spanish rider's nickname was said that he hopes someday when MotoGP returned using 990 cc. "If we really go back to 990 cc, then I will welcome that decision with a warm," he said.

Pedrosa opinion is quite different from her accomplishments. Since its debut in the MotoGP race at this point, the only season where Pedrosa finished outside the top three are in season 2006, where when he used his 990 cc motorcycle.

But perhaps the achievement of three years ago was also caused because he still needed adaptation in his first season in motor racing is the primary class.

2010 Kawasaki Z1000 (1000cc)

2010 Kawasaki Z1000 (1000cc)

2010 Kawasaki Z1000 (1000cc)

Features :
All-New Aluminum Backbone Frame
  • An aluminum backbone frame designed specifically for the Z1000, and similar in concept to the frame of the Ninja ZX-10R, allows a narrow construction that is easy to grip with the knees
  • Lightweight and highly rigid, the frame uses the engine as a stressed member, for a firm, planted feeling and enhanced stability
  • Frame is tuned to transmit the ideal level of engine feedback directly to the rider
  • The frame's five-piece construction consists of steering stem, left and right main frames, and two cross pieces. The two main frame components have open C-shaped cross sections
  • As much as possible, welds were eliminated for simplicity and appearance. The frame beams and swingarm brackets are now single die-cast pieces
  • The new frame uses four engine mounts; three mounts are rigid, the upper rear crankcase mount is rubber
  • The rear sub-frame is a three-piece aluminum die-casting construction, light, strong and good for mass centralization
  • The sub-frame is an example of form and function combined, negating the need for side covers and allowing underseat narrowness for a shorter reach to the ground

All-New Horizontal Rear Monoshock
  • New rear suspension positions the shock unit and linkage above the swingarm where it's less exposed to exhaust heat and contributes to mass centralization
  • Visible from the outside, the horizontal monoshock contributes to the aggressive appearance of the new Z1000
  • Linkage characteristics are the same as those of a standard UNI-TRAK rear suspension: Wheel movement versus shock stroke is the same ratio
  • The shock features rebound damping and spring preload adjustability

Fully Adjustable Front Fork
  • The Z1000's 41mm inverted fork is adjustable for compression damping, rebound damping and spring preload - and it's protected from harm by a cool-looking shroud
  • Settings are designed for both sporty back road performance and excellent comfort on the street

Handlebar, Grips and Footpegs
  • The tubular handlebar is rigid-mounted, contributing to sharp, direct handling
  • A wide, flat bend handlebar offers a design similar to those on off-road bikes, for excellent control
  • Tapered-type grips, like those used on supersport models, offer more direct feel
  • Ninja ZX-10R-style footpegs with knurling offer good grip, direct feel and control and no-nonsense looks
  • The passenger footpeg brackets incorporate convenient luggage hooks

Brakes
  • The Z1000's 300mm front petal brake discs are gripped by opposed four-piston radial-mount calipers. (Caliper piston size is 4x30 mm)
  • A radial-pump front brake master cylinder contributes to the superb control and feel offered by the new calipers
  • The rear brake is a single piston, pin-slide caliper gripping a 250mm petal disc. The caliper is mounted below the swingarm, and located by a torque rod

Instrumentation
  • A distinctive tilting instrument panel with multifunction LCD display behind an orange lens covers all systems

All-new Engine
Cool Air System
  • The intake system routes cool air to the airbox from ducts above the radiator shrouds, minimizing performance loss due to heated intake air
  • Positioning the ducts close to the rider allows the intake sound to be enjoyed by the rider
  • A resonator inside the airbox reduces noise at low rpm, and enhances intake sound at high rpm
  • Liquid-cooled, DOHC, 16-valve 1,043cc inline-four offers greater torque and a stronger top-end rush than previous Z1000 models
  • Crankshaft and transmission shafts are arranged in a straight line instead of a triangular layout, to maintain the design from the previous Z1000 - a design that offers the best look for a naked model
  • 38mm downdraft throttle bodies allow intake air to travel to the engine in the shortest possible distance
  • Oval sub-throttles help keep the engine slim - a good thing since the throttle bodies are positioned between the rider's knees
  • Bore and stroke of 77.0 x 56.0 mm were chosen to achieve the desired engine character -strong in the everyday rpm range most used by naked super bikes
  • Soft rev limiter provides good overrev; power doesn't drop off suddenly at high rpm
  • The crankshaft was lowered to allow for a longer stroke without adding engine height
  • A secondary balancer, driven off a gear on the sixth web of the crankshaft, eliminates excess vibration

Exhaust System
  • The exhaust system features a 4-into-2-pre-chamber-into-2 layout. Silencer end-caps maintain the quad-style image
  • Main and pre-catalyzers ensure emissions are clean
  • Thanks to the under-engine pre-chamber, silencer volume could be reduced. The silencers are also lighter. Overall exhaust system weight is about the same, but the new system offers much better mass centralization and contributes to a lower center of gravity

Fuel Pump
  • Slim-type fuel pump features an integral fuel gauge
  • With revised fuel tank design and the slim-type fuel pump, dead volume inside the tank is minimized; fuel capacity is 4.1 gallons

All-New Aluminum Backbone Frame
  • Lightweight and highly rigid, the frame uses the engine as a stressed member, for a firm, planted feeling and enhanced stability
  • Frame is tuned to transmit the ideal level of engine feedback directly to the rider
  • The rear sub-frame is a three-piece aluminum die-casting construction, light, strong and good for mass centralization
  • An aluminum backbone frame designed specifically for the Z1000, and similar in concept to the frame of the Ninja ZX-10R, allows a narrow construction that is easy to grip with the knees
  • As much as possible, welds were eliminated for simplicity and appearance. The frame beams and swingarm brackets are now single die-cast pieces
  • The sub-frame is an example of form and function combined, negating the need for side covers and allowing underseat narrowness for a shorter reach to the ground
  • The frame's five-piece construction consists of steering stem, left and right main frames, and two cross pieces. The two main frame components have open C-shaped cross sections
  • The new frame uses four engine mounts; three mounts are rigid, the upper rear crankcase mount is rubber

2010 Kawasaki Z1000 Technology

TAILOR-MADE SUPER NAKED

In order to deliver an "excitement" never before experienced with Super Naked models, development of the new Z1000 started from scratch - essentially resulting in a Tailor-made Super Naked.

1. VISUAL IMPACT
Unlike the "mono-form" design of supersport models (where the ensemble is designed as a single piece), Kawasaki naked model designs are collections of parts - each meticulously crafted as both stand-alone components, and as parts of a whole. While contemporary Super Naked models are often no more than supersport models with the fairings removed, the new Z1000 realises a stunning VISUAL IMPACT by being conceived in complete design freedom.

Conceived in complete design freedom for a completely unique appearance.
Each part of the new Z1000 was meticulously designed with a dual role in mind.
Individual functionality, and realization of a condensed, mass-forward image.

While the 2007 Z1000 took the avant-garde design of its predecessor and made it sharper and more aggressive, both models can still be said to have conventional designs. In addition to individual functionality, each part of the 2010 Z1000 was designed to draw volume (and mass) away from extremities and toward the centre. The resultant condensed, mass-forward image gives the new Z1000 a more powerful, dynamic design.

2. RIDING IMPACT
Supersport-based engines and chassis offer high performance, but the number of riders who are able to enjoy this performance on the street is limited.

Rather than pursuing "speed" and performance figures, Z1000 development focused on the "excitement" derived from riding a sport bike on the street, thereby achieving a high RIDING IMPACT.

  • Ride with "IMPACT" at any time, in any situation
  • New engine: designed to offer increased feeling of "acceleration"
  • 1,043 cc 16-valve DOHC In-line Four
  • Completely new engine.
  • Bore and Stroke chosen to achieve desired engine character.

Development Goals:
  • WILD engine character
  • Sharp throttle response
  • High-rpm Power and Sound of an In-line Four

Intoxicating intake howl care of new Cool Air system
Cool Air System

New system uses ducts to direct fresh (cool) air into the air cleaner. Positioning the ducts close to the rider allows the intake sound when accelerating to be enjoyed.

  • New chassis: designed to maximize enjoyment of sport riding on the street
  • Highly rigid aluminum frame delivers very direct feel
  • Rigidity of the main frame was increased; engine mounts increased from 3 to 4.
  • Using the engine as a stressed member contributes to direct handling.
  • Using lightweight aluminum for the frame (previously steel) contributes to sharp handling.
  • Slim, compact twin-tube frame design contributes to ergonomics.
  • Slim, compact backbone twin-tube frame design contributes to ergonomics
  • Uniting the main frame and swingarm pivot area contributes to high-quality finish. (welds eliminated)

Features for high level of control

Handlebar
  • Wider and moved slightly further and higher. New position contributes to the rider's freedom of movement.
  • Fat-type handlebar contributes to tough appearance.

Seat height
  • Lowered approximately 5 mm. Slightly narrower thanks to the new frame; this contributes to the rider's freedom of movement.

Footpegs
  • Aluminum footpegs from the Ninja ZX-10R with machined edges contribute to the direct feel.

Front brakes
  • Radial-mount calipers and a radial-pump master cylinder deliver superb braking performance and precise brake control.

Front suspension with compression adjustability
  • Compression damping adjustability added. Settings chosen to deliver light handling.
Thorough mass centralization contribute to light, sharp handling

Pedrosa in 2009 this season must be satisfied to sit on the top three drivers in the final standings. The success of the last series win in Valencia confirmed its position that had threatened Casey Stoner.

Throughout 2009, Pedrosa's performance was not too bad actually. The Spanish driver was recorded eight times pounded the podium, where two of them being the best. But the name of the competition Pedrosa duo sink Yamaha, Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo in all this season.

24-year-old driver was also wanted to improve his performance in the 2010 season. In addition to improving the quality of racing again, he also asked Honda to continue to improvise on the vehicle.

Pedrosa who follow a series of Valencia MotoGP test some time ago had already tested the vehicle package that will he used in the next season. He admitted that he had quite satisfied with the engine attached to the Honda RC212V, but not for the other parts.

"The machine that we have been pretty good, quite powerful, and have the ability to deliver. So we do not need development in the department at this time," he said in MCN.

"But we still need to take steps in the chassis to be developed. Also, as I told you lately we need to develop stability when braking and entering the corner," he concluded.
